CFCF Announces Scholarship Recipients 2015

May 4, 2015

The Cedar Falls Community Foundation has announced that two scholarships have been awarded from the Robert Eller Study Abroad Endowment.

The Robert Eller Study Abroad Endowment was established by emeritus UNI Education Media Specialist Robert Eller to foster the educational, professional, and personal growth of an undergraduate student at the University of Northern Iowa by providing funds to support a semester or a year of study outside the United States for a student whose previous travel and study experiences abroad have been limited.  Applications are accepted by the Study Abroad Center and reviewed by the University of Northern Iowa Emeritus Association scholarship committee.

“We extend our deepest appreciation to Mr. Robert Eller for establishing and continuing the UNI Robert Eller Scholarships for undergraduate international study. In addition, we are very pleased with the quality of applicants we have had over the years,” said Ervin Dennis, Chair, UNI-Emeritus Association.

April 2015 scholarships have been awarded to Lilly Wadding and Jacob Vollmar, each in the amount of $1,500.

Lilly Wadding came to the University of Northern Iowa from Waverly, Iowa, where she was captain of the Junior Varsity Waverly-Shell Rock High School Cross Country team, and participated in FFA.  A future teacher, Lilly will spend the Fall semester at the University of Chichester, in Chichester, West Sussex, England, studying language and literature.  Lilly noted, “Studying abroad will help me to broaden my horizons and get out of my comfort zone.”  She expects this experience to help her become more self-reliant and independent.

Jacob Vollmar of Pella, Iowa, will also study at the University of Chicester.  Jacob will obtain a B.A. in accounting and supply chain management when he graduates from the University of Northern Iowa in 2017.  He will use his time in England to take business classes in operations management, marketing, and project management.  Jacob said, “Operations management and marketing will go towards my business core requirements.  Project Management is one of the classes from my supply chair major.  The last class I am taking is modern and contemporary British history.  I am deciding on getting an international business minor and this class could be used as an elective for it.”

Applications for the Robert Eller Study Abroad Scholarship are available by contacting the Study Abroad office at the University of Northern Iowa.  The next round of applications will be accepted in October 2015.

The Cedar Falls Community Foundation, now in its 35th year, was organized to administer funds placed in trust by donors who work with the Foundation to make a positive impact on the community’s social, economic and cultural well-being, health and safety.
