Grants Awarded by Cedar Falls Community Foundation

The Cedar Falls Community Foundation awarded two grants to the Cedar Falls Public Library at its May 28, 2015 meeting.  $7,000 was awarded from the Robert & Shirley Berg Library Fund to add amenities and programming to support users who ride bicycles to the library, including an additional bike rack, upgraded water fountains for water bottle refill, lockers, a bike repair station, and bike-related workshops.

Cynthia Sweet, Executive Director of the Cedar Falls Community Foundation said, “We were delighted when the Library came to us with this grant request.  Cedar Falls is already a bicycle friendly community, with miles of trails, clearly marked biking lanes on many of our streets, and a full service bicycle shop in the historic 1917 post office building on Washington Street.  The Library’s new amenities and programming will add another layer of support for bicyclists, and provide encouragement to those exploring this transportation option.”

Also from the Robert & Shirley Berg Library Fund, $5,000 was awarded for promotional materials to enhance awareness of available downloadable patron materials.  Sheryl McGovern, Library Director, said “The Cedar Falls Public Library subscribes to several types of downloadable materials for patrons:  e-books, e-audio, e-magazines, downloadable music, streaming video, a mobile app, and other online resources.  While we promote these items in traditional ways (word of mouth, newsletters, bookmarks, electronic screen, etc.), we would like to try some creative ways of promotion, such as give-away promotional items, and a robot that will be built by teens, and used to promote the e-materials.”

The Cedar Falls Community Foundation, established in 1977, and with funds totaling over $5.5 million, accepts a variety of assets to facilitate personal charitable objectives and investment in the causes individuals care about, with both short and long term goals.   For more information about the Cedar Falls Community Foundation, visit www.cf-communityfoundation.org, e-mail cfcf@cfu.net, or telephone 319-243-9170.
