CEDAR FALLS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES
GRANT TO CEDAR VALLEY PRESCHOOL
The Cedar Falls Community Foundation Board of Directors has approved a grant in the amount of $12,500 from the North Cedar Fund to the Cedar Valley Preschool & Child Care Center to partially cover building renovations being made for sustainability and energy efficiency. The Cedar Valley Preschool, a non-profit organization located at 724 Lantz Avenue, has served over 4,000 children in its 45 year history, and is a strong partner with the North Cedar Elementary School and the community.
In February 2010 a community meeting was held to determine goals for the Cedar Valley Preschool Center, foremost of which were that the Center should become more energy efficient and sustainable. The Center is now in the final phase of a five year interior/exterior renovation of their building. Grant funds from the Cedar Falls Community Foundation will allow the Cedar Valley Preschool & Child Care Center to complete the insulation and siding of the exterior of the building before winter. The Cedar Falls Utilities has estimated that this project will allow the Preschool to save 50% on their annual heating bill.
Cynthia Sweet, executive director of the Cedar Falls Community Foundation said, “There is a critical need for quality preschool and child care in the community – there are simply not enough openings to serve all the families who need child care. In addition, the Cedar Valley Preschool & Child Care Center is the only center in the North Cedar area. The goal of the Foundation’s North Cedar Fund is to support projects that improve the overall quality of life of the residents of Northern Cedar Falls. Quality child care and educational programs are a critical component for families’ quality of life. We are happy to be able to assist the Cedar Valley Preschool & Child Care Center in preparing its building to serve children and families for the next 45 years.”
The Cedar Falls Community Foundation serves as the leading philanthropic organization in Cedar Falls, Iowa, using the resources entrusted to its stewardship to support projects that enhance the community’s quality of life through cultural, scholarly, recreational, literary, and artistic endeavors.
