The Cedar Falls Community Foundation has awarded $27,000 in scholarships from the Robert Eller Study Abroad Endowment to support UNI students studying abroad during the Spring 2025 semester.
The Robert Eller Study Abroad Endowment was established by emeritus UNI Education Media Specialist Robert Eller to foster the educational, professional, and personal growth of undergraduate students at the University of Northern Iowa by providing funds to support study outside the United States for students whose previous travel and study experiences abroad had been limited. Applications are accepted through the UNI Study Abroad Center and reviewed by a committee of University of Northern Iowa Emeritus Association members: Diane Curtis (chair), Paul Rider, Susan Schwieger, Gary Shontz and Michael Prahl, and Cedar Falls Community Foundation Executive Director, Sally Timmer. Four students were chosen to receive scholarships for Spring 2025 from the Robert Eller Study Abroad Endowment.
Each student has been introduced below:
Savannah Willard is a Psychology major with a Mental Health and Family Studies minor from Cedar Falls, Iowa. Savannah will be studying at Florence University of Arts in Florence, Italy.
Martin Martinez is a Business Administration and Financial Management major with an Entrepreneurship minor from Story City, Iowa. Martin will be studying at American College of Greece in Athens, Greece.

“Robert Eller envisioned offering Iowa students the chance to explore the world and enhance their personal development and autonomy through international study experiences. The Foundation is privileged to carry forward Mr. Eller’s vision by supporting these students on their study abroad journeys. Upon their return, these students will share their enriching experiences with prospective students, aiming to inspire a greater number of students to pursue international study opportunities in the years to come,” says Cedar Falls Community Foundation Direction, Sally Timmer.
The Robert Eller Study Abroad Scholarship Fund has awarded 109 scholarships for a total of over $411,892.00. Applications for the Robert Eller Study Abroad Scholarship are available by contacting the Study Abroad office at the University of Northern Iowa and are accepted in November and March of each year.
